Pathway to Peace with God

Step One: God’s Plan

Eternal, Abundant Life and Peace

God loves you and wants you to experience eternal life, abundant life, peace, and a personal relationship with Him.
The Pathway to Peace with God 1
God created you.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.  Psalm 139:13-14
God loves you and offers eternal life.
For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.  John 3:16
God wants you to experience abundant life.
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.  John 10:10b
Why don’t most people have this abundant life and peace that God planned for us to have?

Step Two: The Problem

Our sin keeps us from having a personal relationship with God.

The Pathway to Peace with God 2
Since God did create us in His own image to have an abundant life, he did not make us like robots to involuntarily love and obey Him. God has given us a free will — the freedom to make our own choices.
What is sin?

If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.  James 4:17

Who has sinned?

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,  Romans 3:23

What happens when we sin?
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 6:23
Throughout history, people have sensed their separation from God. They have tried to bridge the gap in many different ways without success.
The Pathway to Peace with God 3
There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.  Proverbs 14:12
There is only one bridge to reach God!

Step 3

The Bridge to God = The Cross

Jesus Christ “bridged the gap” between us and God because He paid the penalty for our sins.  Jesus died on the cross and rose three days later so that we might have a personal relationship with God.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”  John 14:6
But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:8
God has provided the only way to a personal relationship with Him and to Heaven. Each person must make a choice.

Step 4

You must personally respond by receiving Jesus Christ and trusting in Him to remove your sin.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  Romans 10:9
Here is how you can receive Christ right now.
  • Admit you have a need. Willingly say “I am a sinner.”
  • Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the grave.
  • Confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior trusting fully in Him and what He did on the cross for you.
Here is a suggested prayer for you to pray:
Dear Father God,
I know that my sin has separated me from you and that I need your forgiveness.  I believe that Jesus died in my place, paying the price for my sins.  I ask You Jesus to forgive my sin and to come into my life as my personal Savior and Lord.  I place my trust in You and You alone Jesus.  Help me by your grace and strength to live my life for You and Your purpose for my life.  Thank you for giving me the gift of eternal life.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Now that you’re “Born again”

  • Get Baptized.  It’s an outward expression of your commitment to Jesus.
  • Join a good church.  Spending time with other Christians will help you to grow in your faith.
  • Pray and read your Bible daily.  As they say, “When you pray, you talk to God. When you read your Bible, God talks to you.”
